Comic Book Tattoo and Myspace puts a smile on my face.

Comic Book Tattoo: The upcoming Tori Amous project from Image Comics is a big monster of a book, 480-page, full colour & tons of talent in it!

I was invited to illustrate a story by Mark Sable rifting off of Upside Down for the book. And best bit is I get to show it off to you now.

There has been a few taunting peeks of some of the amazing stuff people did for this book, and thanks to Tori and Rantz, it’s Mark’s and my honor to have our little ditty previewed in full for Myspace Comics along with a few words from the lady herself about her 5 favorite artists.

Comic Book Tattoo, a 12" x 12" 480-page anthology, will be in stores July 23rd.
I hope I get my copy soon…..gosh…….slobber.
Visit www.everythingtori.com for more information.

Amos worked alongside editor Rantz Hoseley, co-creator behind the upcoming DISPLACED PERSONS and VIX. Together they formed a line up featuring Y: THE LAST MAN's Pia Guerra, Leah Moore, John Reppion David Mack, Hope Larson, Ryan Kelly, Jonathan Hickman, Colleen Doran, Eric Canete, Ted [yes!] McKeever, Jock, Anthony Johnston, Dame Darcy, Carla Speed McNeil, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Mark Buckingham, Ivan Brandon, C. B. Cebulski and many more, including an introduction by SANDMAN creator Neil Gaiman.

This is the first of three anthologies I'm going to be in between now and December, what a way to kick things off!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Therefore Repent!
Post rapture enraptured.

I’ll try not to get too excited about it, but first quarter word on our post rapture graphic novel is good.

IDW has numbers for 3216 since it was released in January. Jim tells me he got about 1000 with his NMK edition, making for a total of 4216!*

Five would have been nice but I feel pretty good about this, very in fact! He he! And the response to Therefore Repent! so far has been mostly really positive. I’ve been collecting the press and quotes - got one from Pulitzer winner Junot Diaz! – And posting them under this tab on my blog.

*numbers http://www.salgoodsam.com/blog/2008/06/therefore-repent-update.html

It’s been great getting all that feed back and more from readers about Therefore Repent! directly as well. I’m working on a bunch of stuff to support this book, some posters are brewing and other DIY goodies that I post online for free downloads here, if you would like your vary own stand up talking dog check it out.

I also have some buttons that I plan to make available. http://www.flickr.com/photos/salgood/tags/buttons/

The buttons and the original pages from Therefore Repent! are already available for sale, I’ve sold a few so far but most of the art is waiting for a good and caring home.
Anyone interested can write me about that directly. Salgood at gmail dot com

And finally, I recently made a simple musical Video Trailer for the book using ‘Dogs’ a song by my friend Michelle Breslin.

I’ve wanted to make a Trailer for Therefore Repent! for a while, and when I recently heard Dogs for the first time immediately I knew it was what I was looking for!

It’s a beautifully haunting acoustic piece. I made the video in a flurry - for a first time use of Movie Maker I’m pretty happy with the results. Have plans to work with a proper motion graphics artist for another version but I like this one’s simplicity quite a lot actually. You can watch it on Youtube or download a high rez copy directly here.

The Example - Tom Taylor, Colin Wilson

When Melbourne playwright Tom Taylor decided he wanted to turn his 2005 short play The Example into a graphic novel, he got short shrift from illustrators he sought to contact on an internet forum. They were wary of getting involved with a speculative project. Taylor finally got a sympathetic response from artist Colin Wilson. It was stroke of luck. Wilson, an illustrator with more than 30 years of experience, has worked on cult offerings such as anti-hero Judge Dredd from British comic 2000 AD, Star Wars comics and French detective fiction. Finding an artist with a style to match the content is not easy, says Taylor, 34, a long-time devotee of speech bubbles and the picture grid. "With comics you're trying to create a full story and you can't do a really deep, philosophical, hard-hitting piece with a guy who draws a predominantly cartoony style; it doesn't work if it's Daffy Duck."

Shadowline’s online comic section has an eclectic selection that’s culled from a variety of online sources. The best known is probably Carla Speed McNeil’s Finder series, one of the earliest comics to abandon monthly print serialization for online serialization followed by printing the graphic novels as they’re completed. Finder’s a critical favorite and immediately gives the site some street cred. Platinum Grit is an Australian web comic with a sporadic print history.

Kari, Amruta Patil's story of an androgynous adwoman working in Mumbai, has unobtrusively notched up a few points for the genre in India by selling around 3,500 copies, a figure that publisher Harper Collins says, is "not bad". Patil follows in the footsteps of Orijit Sen, who wrote River Of Stories, the first graphic novel in India in 1994 and Sarnath Banerjee whose 2004 Corridor was widely marketed by Penguin India as India's first graphic novel.
